Merry and Bright

We finished up our holiday festivities yesterday with a fun get together with some at my in-laws. Even though it is crazy this time of year, I always love how much time we get to spend with family! I am thankful, however, that I get to go back to normal programming this week. While Christmas decorations are coming down...at some point... my holiday spirit has not quite faded! That is why I chose this colorful outfit with my favorite hue for this time of year. Yes, red is bold, and this dress might have scared my husband a little.. He kept saying, "It's just so bright!". Nevertheless, through this blog, I have been inspired to step outside of my boundaries a little and those risks have paid off!

This amazing red sweater dress from Nordstrom is a great option for a bold winter look! Also available in black, it works well dressed up or down. It is a nice knit material, perfect for a cold, winter day, but still light enough to work in the nicer weather that we have been having here in Kansas lately! This is a shift dress, meaning that it is supposed to hang straight. I originally bought a size small but decided to size down, as I wanted a more fitted look, but even the extra small ended up being a little too loose. I just went with it but I will probably wear it with a belt in the future and would suggest that you order a size or two down depending on how fitted you want it to be!

I love this detail shot that Gus got! Since the dress is brighter, I decided to tone it down with the rest of my look and chose neutral colored accessories. This bag from Target was the perfect choice! I love that Target makes bags that are super affordable and look so classy! Click here to see it in a different look. Unfortunately, this bag is sold out, as I bought it a while ago, but I have linked some similar bags for you above.

I think these boots, also from Nordstrom, have to be one of my favorite pairs that I have in my closet. White boots have been super popular lately, and these are such great quality and super cute! When buying white boots, I always suggest that you look for a pair that has a light colored sole, as darker soles leave scuff marks on the boot.

This picture also shows my great rings and bracelet from H&M! The gold tones worked so well with this look!

To finish off my accessories, I also wore this initial necklace from Kate Spade and some simple stud earrings from H&M. When wearing such a bright color, and lots of it, it is good to stay with more simple accessories if you want to tone it down. Depending on the occasion however, I say go with however much or little color you like!

For something different, I wore my hair straight and pinned back one side with some blonde bobby pins from Target! This is a little, modern detail that can elevate an everyday hairstyle. Keep adding bobby pins and/or make geometric shapes or patterns with them like this for something fun! I also stepped away from my comfortable bold lip and went with a nude instead. This particular color is a matte liquid lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics!
