My Versatile Power Suit and Where I Wear It!

Some of you might not know this about me, but I graduated college a little over two years ago with. a degree in music performance. For my "day job", I teach private percussion lessons at my studio in downtown Salina and many of my nights are filled with rehearsals for some kind of musical event. I am a percussionist with the Salina Symphony, play in pit orchestras at the Salina Community Theatre, and am in a local Folk/Americana Band, Everyday Lights. (My percussion website here) These groups, along with other random gigs, keep me on my toes and satisfy one part of my urge to express myself. I also absolutely love fashion (and decor) and like to blend those two things together! As a musician, I have a closet full of black clothing, as that is what we wear for performances most of the time. However, black does not have to be boring!

It is stigma that percussion is a man's instrument. It just isn't ladylike to hit things... but there are more and more female percussionists all the time! I like to push the boundaries a little as well by wearing super feminine clothing while playing. You can find me playing a drum in heels, a tulle skirt, and bright red lipstick.

This outfit is so versatile! It is a great option for anyone for work, a date night (upcoming Valentine's Day look!), or even a formal affair if you don't feel like wearing a dress!

This gorgeous and amazingly comfortable jacket and pants set from Bloomingdales is a dream! I am usually not one to wear a suit; in fact, this is my only one. Most of the time, I stick to more feminine dresses and skirts. However, this suit was an exception. While shoulder padded and oversized in the fit, the velvet fabric and overall look of the jacket keeps it feminine and flattering. It pairs so well with the skinny, velvet trousers, which offset the oversized top with some structure and sexiness. Hurry fast to snag this set, as it is affordable and is only available in select sizes!

This blazer covers enough that you technically could wear it without a blouse underneath, however, it is fairly low cut and loose fitting, so I wore my favorite black Hanes bodysuit underneath! Bodysuits in general are super useful when layering, as they are close fitting and don't come untucked. This particular bodysuit is so comfortable and fits so well!

This checked coat (also styled here) from the Something Navy collection at Nordstrom has since sold out, but I have linked some similar options above!

I styled the look with a powerful, geometric, convertible crossbody bag from Zara. It is sold out as well, but I found some other great options! I also wore my favorite pair of black, faux suede pumps from DSW (styled here as well). These heels are so chic and pretty comfortable! They have a doubled ankle strap and work so well with many looks.

For my jewelry, I wore a super cute layered choker set and some gold stud earrings, both. from H&M. I think that a layered necklace always looks so good with a low cut top! To top off the look, I wore one of my favorite creme lipsticks from Kylie Cosmetics. These lipsticks always feel so soft on the lips, are never drying, and stay on all day!
