Pretty and Powerful in Plaid

Gus and I got up pretty early on Thursday to catch the morning light for our shoot before a busy day. It was a beautiful, crisp, fall morning, and I felt that I should style a more casual outfit for you all. I haven't done many of those! For this outfit, I was inspired by fall trends and fellow bloggers, who are much cooler than I am. 😎Every one of my larger pieces (blazer, jeans, and boots) are on trend for this season, and I really wanted to try them out! This outfit was a bit outside of my comfort zone (I am usually more feminine with my outfits if you haven't noticed), but I believe that it is a good thing to experience trends and different styles than your own. You never know if you like it until you try it!

These jeans from Free People are seriously one of the most comfortable pairs I own fabric-wise. They are super stretchy and the wide crop legs are flattering and just the right length on me (I am 5'4"). I like the high waist as it made mine look super tiny from the front! I'm a little self-conscious about the side view but who isn't.. After reading the reviews on these jeans, I did size down from a 27 to a 26, and I recommend it! They fit very well, maybe a little snug on the hips, but I think if I had gotten my normal size that it would have been too big on my waist.

I absolutely love this shirt from XOXO 5th Avenue. I purchased this, along with three other graphic tees, after finding these on Instagram, and have been super impressed with them. I love the message of their shirts. Many of them are all about female empowerment, which I am super passionate about! The shirts fit very well and are made out of thick, quality fabric. I wore this shirt tucked in at the front to show the high waist of the jeans and my bold, red belt from Target!

I was very thankful to have this plaid blazer/coat from Forever 21 in the cold weather that morning. Oversized plaid blazers are so in style right now and this one I found especially cute. It is a coat, however, so it is a pretty heavy wool-like fabric, which you can't see from the website. The coat is great quality for a small price and would also be cute with a sweater dress and knee high boots as the weather gets colder!

I styled this outfit with these cute boots from Public Desire. I felt that they added even more edge and power to the outfit. While these boots are adorable, I do give a word of warning that applies to white boots in general. Make sure when purchasing them that they do NOT have a black trim around the bottom. I am seeing this at a lot of different stores and only learned my lesson through experience with these boots.. The black trim leaves scuff marks on the inside of your boots during every wear. While they can be removed by a magic eraser, it is a bit annoying to have to clean them. I have linked some options above that do not have black trim if you're not into scrubbing boots. 😅

This Michael Kors backpack was the perfect accessory for this outfit. I have linked some similar options for you above, as this one has been sold out for quite some time. I love a good backpack, and this one has enough room for everything I need and is still stylish!

For my jewelry, I wore simple and modern earrings and rings from H&M. They are my go to for rings, as you can buy them in sets!
